Premarital Counseling
If you are reading this page because you are preparing to get married-please accept my deepest congratulations. In my opinion, marriage is a wonderful part of being human. You are about to embark upon a most amazing adventure!
Doing some premarital counseling is a very smart idea. With today’s American divorce rate hovering around 53%, preparing yourself to beat the odds makes sense. Ask any therapist and they will tell you one of the things that is most difficult about marital therapy is how long couples wait before they get help (an average of 6 years!) The longer couples wait, the angrier and more hurt they are, and the longer the recovery. So, getting the information you need before you need it will prevent problems, and will get you into counseling earlier if you do have problems.
Premarital counseling can prevent a lot of future pain by giving you the knowledge and tools you need to be successful at the start of your marriage. Premarital therapy also deepens your connection to each other prior to getting married, starting you off feeling strong and confident.
Finally, marital therapy is expensive, averaging around $7500 for a full course of treatment. Compare this to the $800 (for 6 sessions) and the savings are obvious.
